Demolition broker Ed McIlvaney has criticised the European Union's failure to approve ship recycling at "green" yards in India and Bangladesh.
He said it is "ridiculous" that some breakers are approved by the Hong Kong Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, but not the EU.
McIlvaney told TradeWinds: "I am a firm believer that the standard of the green recycling yards in India are at a higher standard than the EU Ship Recycling Regulation regulations."
