DNV GL has unveiled its forecast for shipping fuel looking out to 2050, the horizon for the IMO's ambitious 50% carbon reduction target.
Knut Orbeck-Nilssen, the CEO of the classification society's maritime division, told TradeWinds on the sidelines of the Capital Link International Shipping Forum that it sees gas playing a key role in the future of shipping fuel.
And while the forecast does call for greater use of alternatives with a smaller carbon footprint, he said there must be realism in the pursuit of greenhouse gas reductions.
