Rates for modern LNG carriers approach six-figure levels

Term-charter rates for large modern LNG carriers are shifting up and are expected to break the six-figure mark soon.

Brokers this week quoted a recently concluded deal for Teekay LNG Partners and Marubeni Corp’s 165,500-cbm Arwa Spirit (built 2008), which is reported to have been fixed to Cheniere Energy for 12 months at a rate in the low $80,000-per-day range.
