Large Qatari-controlled LNG carriers moving west are taking a longer route via the Cape of Good Hope rather than the shorter transit of the Suez Canal as the diplomatic row launched by seven countries against the tiny Gulf state continues.

Ship tracking data show three Q-Max LNG carriers, the 267,335-cbm Bu Samra (built 2008), the 267,335-cbm Q-Max Al Mafyar (built 2009) and the 267,335-cbm Zarga (built 2010) are all heading west round the Cape.
