PetroChina has fixed a 13-year-old, steam turbine-driven LNG carrier on time charter at a strong rate as the LNG shipping market tightens.
In busy chartering conditions, brokers said PetroChina has paid a rate in the $50,000-per-day range to take Golar LNG's 146,000-cbm Golar Maria (built 2006) for 12 months.
Previously, brokers have pegged rates for this type of tonnage at around $45,000 per day, averaging around the $40,000 mark for the year-to-date.
