A number of shipowners are starting to show interest in contracting LNG carrier tonnage on an apparently speculative basis as they try to position themselves for expected demand from upcoming liquefaction projects.
Newbuilding sources tell TradeWinds that shipbuilders are seeing some enquiry ahead of chartering requirements for LNG carriers.
They say yards are holding their cards close to their chests on who is behind the fresh interest in new tonnage.
