Low-profile Japanese tonnage provider Nisshin Shipping has surprised the market by breaking into the LNG sector with a lone newbuilding booked in South Korea.
Shipbuilding players said Y Fujii-controlled Nisshin has commissioned Samsung Heavy Industries to construct one 174,000-cbm LNG carrier for delivery during the first quarter of 2022. It is unclear if the deal includes optional vessels.
Newbuilding sources identify Nisshin as the owner behind the order disclosed by SHI last week.
