Around 60% of newbuildings contracted in the third quarter of this year have been ordered as LNG dual-fuelled vessels, according to classification society DNV.

In a summary of the last three months, DNV said September was “a relatively slow month” for alternative fuelled vessels with just 17 orders placed.

Of these nine were vessels able to use LNG as a fuel with the bulk of these being container ships, and the remaining eight were for methanol-fuelled vessels, figures from DNV’s AFI platform show.
