Assessments of spot charter rates for LNG carriers have slumped to new lows that show shipowners trading in the Atlantic will not be able to cover their costs on a round voyage.

These come amid weak demand for vessels and red-hot natural gas and LNG prices, but brokers said owners are starting to show some resistance.

On Tuesday, the Baltic Exchange and Spark Commodities pushed their rate assessments for Atlantic trading LNG carriers into negative territory.
