ExxonMobil has made an approach to shipyards for a swathe of eight LNG carrier newbuildings.
Industry sources following the LNG shipping sector said the US energy major is asking for delivery dates from the first quarter of 2022, which would mean orders would need to be placed this year.
They said the approach to shipyards has been made on a strict confidentiality basis.
