Energy major Shell views LNG as pivotal to marine decarbonisation, methanol as a non-starter and says ammonia’s toxicity risks would need to be fully addressed before it would consider using it as a marine fuel.
“Shell’s view is that burning methanol doesn’t make sense,” Shell finance manager marine LNG Vincent Willems said on Thursday.
