Avenir LNG is running one of its bunker vessels continuously on bio-LNG in 2025 in what it claims is a world first.

The Stolt-Nielsen-controlled company said that as of 1 April, the 7,500-cbm LNG bunker vessel Avenir Ascension (built 2022) will use bio-LNG for its own propulsion.

“The vessel will run 100% on bio-LNG for the remainder of 2025, reducing our CO2 emissions by more than 3,500 tonnes per year, equivalent to the annual emissions of over 2,000 passenger vehicles,” Avenir said.
