Carsten Melchiors, the former secretary general of Bimco, has died.
Bimco said it was with great sadness that it informed members of the death of Melchiors after a period of illness.
He headed the Denmark-based organisation between 2004 and 2008.
Bimco described him as a "charismatic leader who did not shy away from seeking new ways and means to develop and promote Bimco and its activities to the international shipping community."
