Portugal has signed off on a new tonnage tax scheme geared at building its maritime industry.
The plan comes as part of a wider ambition to develop its shipping credentials in areas ranging from labour, to infrastructure and maritime suppliers.
Robert Lorenz Meyer, President of the European and International Shipowners Association of Portugal, said: “Portugal is playing an active role to further improve the location as one of the most important European shipping markets – also as alternative after Brexit.“
