The New York-listed shipowner turned in an adjusted net loss for the three months ended June 30 of $15.9m as compared to a $5.3m profit in the same period of 2012.

The result worked out at $0.16 per share compared to $0.05 per share last time round.

Two analysts polled by Thomson Reuters had anticipated a loss per share of $0.11 for the second quarter.
