The UK and New York-based shipowner reported a third-quarter profit of $11m Monday, versus a gain of $8.4m in the comparable period a year prior.
According to an earnings report filed with securities regulators in Oslo, operating revenue amounted to $64.2m, which represents an increase of 62.1% year-on-year.
“This significant increase is primarily a result of the additional vessels acquired during 2013, but is also derived from improving charter rates, offset in part by a reduction in vessel utilization,” it told investors before noting that Maersk delivered three more ships during the period.
