Two top shipping banks are among a dozen UK lenders which have seen their credit rating downgraded by US rating agency Moody's.
It has produced this reduction on fears of their being a shortage of future UK government support.
The institutions have fallen into three categories.
Top UK shipping lenders, RBS and Lloyds came off better than the others.
The agency suggested they would attract only a 'high likelihood of government support'.
Nationwide, Santander, Co-operative Bank and Clydesdale had a 'moderate or high likelihood of support'.
