The energy firm announced last week that it would no longer purchase and hire vessels through MISC in which it owns a two-thirds stake.
Instead Petronas plans to buy and charter LNG carriers directly which it says would give it “direct access to LNG shipping capacity at the lowest possible costs”.
However the oil firm will still employ MISC to provide project management and technical services for its LNG newbuildings, it said “given MISC's extensive experience and expertise in the LNG shipping sector and familiarity with Petronas’ business needs”.
