Maersk Drilling has secured an extension for one drillship at a lower rate, reflecting today’s challenging market.
ExxonMobil has agreed to stretch the current deal for the 60,683-gt Maersk Viking (built 2014) for 150 days and it is paying around $22.5m.
This means the drillship will be in operation until December 2017 for about $150,000 per day.
Michael Reimer Mortensen, vice-president of Maersk Drilling, said: “It is evident that we are now looking at a day rate much lower than the original contract, reflecting the current market situation.
