Sacyr-led construction consortium Grupo Unidos por el Canal (GUPC)will up tools tonight after the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) agreed to handover $36.8m in arrears for work carried out in December.

Resumption of the work to install a third set of locks couldbe short lived however as the two parties have yet to resolve a number of otherissues.

They will sit down in the next 72 hours to thrash out a morepermanent agreement covering the dates for the delivery of the gates, a schedulefor the remainder of the works and payment issues.
