India is planning to create up to 10m jobs through new port and shipping projects over the next five years.
The Business Standard cited highways and shipping minister Nitin Gadkari as saying the Sagarmala scheme aims to capitalise on the country's 7,500km coastline, 14,500km of navigable waterways and strategic location for international trade.
The top priority is to develop waterways and ports to reduce high logistics costs, shifting cargo from road and rail.
