Grindrod Shipping has moved one of its four tankers in a sale-and-leaseback deal.
The New York-listed and Singapore-based shipowner disclosed on Tuesday that it had sold the 50,100-dwt MR tanker Matuku (built 2016) to an unnamed Japanese shipowner for $26.8m before commissions but net of charter pre-payments.
As part of the deal, Grindrod will bareboat charter the vessel back for up to 15 years, with a right to reacquire the vessel beginning in May 2022.
