Germany is losing ownership of many ships because banks are selling them below market value in order to clean up their balance sheets, says German Shipowners’ Association (VDR) president Alfred Hartmann.
Speaking at the VDR’s annual dinner, Hartmann said that the ships were often left in the hands of German ship managers.
“It is acknowledged that we are extremely good at this,” he said.
