Blockchain is no substitute for human judgement, according to UK law firm Reed Smith.
The company recognises the "vast potential" of the encryption technology in a world featuring complex shipping transactions.
"It is not surprising therefore that the shipping industry is increasingly looking to blockchain to streamline global supply processes, improve transparency and protect against fraud", it said.
But in a new study, the law firm lays out some of the pitfalls inherent in the process.
