In a little over a month, the global deliberations over how to reduce shipping’s greenhouse gas emissions have been on a whirlwind tour to three countries on two continents.

This week’s episode of the Green Seas podcast traces the steps from the COP27 climate conference in Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt to the closed-door negotiations in Brussels that decided how to include shipping in the European Union’s Emissions Trading System.

The last stop is London, where the International Maritime Organization is mulling its next steps as delegates debate strengthening the shipping regulator’s targets and how to introduce a global price on carbon.

We talk to Blue Sky Maritime Coalition chief executive David Cummins, Bimco deputy secretary general Lars Robert Pedersen and Seas at Risk senior shipping policy officer Lucy Gilliam.
