Planned global restrictions on sulphur emissions could push marine fuel prices to $1,000 per tonne if implemented in 2020, an Aegean Marine Petroleum Network executive said Tuesday.

Gregg Schwartz, director of strategic development at the New York fuel supplier’s Aegean Bunkering USA subsidiary, said the looming International Maritime Organisation rules could bring a pricing shock to the industry.
