Corrosion and fire safety deficiencies were some of a dozen faults which led to an STX Pan Ocean bulker being clamped in the UK last month.
A Vinalines bulker also raised inspectors’ ire while a Lebanese car carrier which was involved in a collision in January was hauled aside following a breakdown in its safety management system.
STX’s 45,600-dwt New Emerald (built 1996) spent five days in Tyne after officials uncovered 12 deficiencies, although only two provided grounds for detention.
