New York-listed Navios has purchased two newbuildings from Japanese shipyards and is chartering in five more with purchase options.
The newbuilds comprise one capesize at a cost of $52m and a panamax worth $31.8m, the Greek owner reported in its earnings statement today.
Navios will finance the buys at unnamed yards with debt and cash from operations, it added.
The Angeliki Frangou-led shipowner has also hired five kamsarmax newbuildings from delivery between the second quarter of next year and the end of 2016.
