Mitsubishi (MHI) has revealed design details for the three bulkers contracted by Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) which TradeWinds reported yesterday.
The new post-panamax bulk carriers will be built at Sumitomo’s subsidiary, Oshima Shipbuilding - Nagasaki, but will incorporate MHI’s ‘green technology’.
It is the first commercial application of MHI’s MALS (Mitsubishi Air Lubrication System).
This reduces frictional resistance between the shell plating and the water using streams of air bubbles.
