Late last week officials from the GardenState had hoped to hire a foreign bulker to transport the 40,000 tons of cargofrom Searsport, Maine to Newark, which is prohibited by the Jones Act.
Today’s development suggests that an initialattempt to obtain a federal waiver may have failed but it’s unclear if authoritieshave abandoned the campaign altogether.
