The ruling confirms that London arbitrators have substantive jurisdiction over the dispute which related to ships Hong Xiang Shipping chartered from Golden Ocean and Ship Finance International.
The case is however being fought in the name of Beijing Jianlong Heavy Industry, as this shipbuilding and steel conglomerate, which is the parent company of Hong Xiang, guaranteed performance of the contracts.
There are five different disputes, each relating to a single ship, but the issues are similar and turn on the legality of the guarantees provided by Beijing Jianlong.
