In a statement the US bulker operator said Buchanan will hand the reins to its chief financial officer (CFO), John Wobensmith, on 19 December 2014.
The departure will mark the end of a tour of duty that began in 2005, which is the same year that Genco completed an initial public offering in New York.
Wobensmith will be replaced by Apostolos Zafolias, who has served as executive vice president of finance since July of last year but has been with the owner for nearly a decade.
