Euroseas has reconfirmed plans to forego exhaust gas scrubbers in meeting the pending Marpol Annex VI call to lower bunker sulphur content to 0.5% by 2020.
The Aristides Pittas-led company stated in a December 2018 report that compliant fuel was the better option and that scrubbers were not environmentally friendly for the long term.
This preference was aired after dozens of shipowners in the boxship, bulker and cruiseship spaces had committed millions of dollars to the decades-old technology.
