On Tuesday Danish Ship Finance (DSF) said,for the first time in years, it sees a “glimmer of hope” since research suggestssupply will grow less than distance-adjusted demand.
“Premature scrapping and extensive orderpostponements could, hypothetically, improve the balance between supply anddemand in 2014 and beyond,” it added in the latest edition of its annualshipping industry review.
DSF noted bulkers as young as 15 yearsare being sold for recycling as a result of lacklustre freight rates and risingscrap prices but was quick to point out that the total number of “obvious”demolition candidates is diminishing.
