Barbed wire, electric fences and alert crew thwarted an armed pirate assault on a Dutch bulker off Mombasa on Tuesday, TradeWinds has learned.
The 27,100-dwt open-hatch carrier African Eagle (built 2003) has been left slightly damaged after coming under fire off Mombasa but no crew members were injured.
Worryingly for Kenyan authorities the early-morning attack is believed to have occurred within the country’s territorial waters.
