After languishing below 600 points for much of this year, an upturn this week has seen the main index strike 773 points, the best seen since late December.

Omar Nokta of Clarksons Platou Securities says higher volumes in the Atlantic have aided the upturn in the capesize market.

This has helped capesize rates to $8,600 per day on Thursday, up from $5,300 per day a week ago and above the $5,000 per day average for 2015 to date, the analyst said in a report.
