The first grain shipment using an eB/L developed by Electronic Shipping Solutions (ESS) was moved on the 23,543-dwt UBC Bremen (built 1998) from Houston, US to Veracruz, Mexico.

Cargill now aims to engage in wider trials of the eB/Ls for exports from North and South America to the Caribbean and Europe where shipments will be moved between its facilities.

The eB/Ls were drafted by Cargill’s Reserve Terminal and reviewed on ESS’s eDocs Exchange by the carrier, UBC, in New York; the shipper in Minneapolis Cargill Inc; and the receiver Cargill de Mexico in Santa Fe Mexico City, before being signed electronically.
