Tsakos Energy Navigation has finally put pen to paper on its plans to break into the liquefied natural gas carrier market by signing a contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea.

The contract details stipulate a 150,000-cbm vessel for delivery in March 2007. In the New York-listed tanker owner’s announcement no reference is made to other LNG orders at Hyundai, but says TEN “remains engaged in negotiations with another shipyard regarding two additional LNG carriers”.
