Taiwan’s iron ore imports rose to a record level of 15.6 million tons last year, an increase of 2.4%.

The main suppliers to Taiwan were Australia, Brazil, Canada, Indian and South Africa, according to the Japanese trade newsletter Tex Report which cites customs statistics.

The trade statistics come as state-owned China Steel Corporation, Taiwan's biggest steelmaker, refuses to stop steel exports.
