Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (MES) has reported a year-on-year 52% drop in its first-half current or pretax profits as the strong yen undermined an increase in orders.

In the six months to the end of September the Japanese shipbuilder enjoyed a 38% rise in shipbuilding sales from JPY 58.8bn ($530m) to JPY 94.9bn. Group sales rose 6.6% to JPY 199.6bn from JPY 187.2bn
