Six vessels were detained in Hong Kong during October, but two North Korean general cargoships garnered the headlines.
Hong Kong officials had to strenuously deny that the detentions were linked to sanctions imposed after North Korea’s nuclear test.
Both ships are owned by Kumrung Trading Co. The 2,035-gt Kang Nam 1 (built 1989) was released on 3 November after being held on 23 October, while the 1,135-gt Kang Nam 5 (built 1984) was detained on 26 October, but no release date has been given.
