Indonesian shipping has said farewell to one of its favourite sons.
Soedarpo Sastrosatomo, who founded Samudera Indonesia Group in 1964, died yesterday in his 88th year.
Sastrosatomo was chairman of Samudera when it floated on the Singapore stock exchange in 1997 and stayed in the role until his retirement in April 2005.
Following his retirement he was awarded the honorary position of chairman emeritus at Indonesia’s biggest shipping line.
