An Indian chief officer brutally killed and a Russian seaman fatally stabbed are the latest victims of violence at sea.
Felix Mascarenhas was found with his hands tied and his throat slit on the Maldives-flag, 1,014-gt general cargo ship Fortuna (built 1984) on 15 November when the vessel was 200 miles off Maldives.
Police on the Indian Ocean republic initially treated the chief officer’s death as suicide, as did his employer, Privilege Shipping and Trading of Maldives, according to Indian media reports.
