The claim follows an agreement with the Greek government covering delegation of statutory services to a recognised organisation (RO). LR has gained a higher degree of delegation, including certification of passenger ships, the International Ship And Port Facility Security Code and ships engaged exclusively on domestic voyages.
As a member of the European Union, Greece is obliged to open its markets, meaning greater access for both classification societies like LR and ferry operators.
