Hyundai Merchant Marine of South Korea has placed an order for two 309,000 dwt double-hull VLCCs with Hyundai Heavy Industry.
The order is thought to be the first HMM order for tankers since 1996. The two vessels, ordered at around $67m each, are due for delivery in January and April of 2006.
The company had been building up its tanker fleet through long-term charters and was not thought ready to plunge back into newbuildings.
