Bombay-based Essar Shipping is said to be in advanced negotiations for acquiring 26% in 2004-built LNG carrier Golar Viking to charter it out to Royal Dutch Shell for hauling its LNG for its import and re-gasification terminal at Hazira in Gujarat, western India.
Press reports from India say Essar plans to convert the 137,000-cbm LNG carrier as an Indian-flag vessel to help Shell meet the Indian government requirement that LNG into the country can be transported only on ships flying Indian flag.
