The European Commission (EC) has drawn up a hit-list of ports to target for possible breaches of European Union rules on competition, following the humiliating defeat of the ports directive in the European Parliament.
The vote by MEPs against the directive by 229 to 209 killed off the plan to liberalise port services. It had already been through a conciliation process to produce a compromise agreement that required ratification by both the EP and the European Council of Ministers.
