The Danish International Ship Register (DIS) is on the brink of joining the likes of Panama, Bolivia and Cambodia on the blacklist of flags of convenience (foc).
Unless a last-minute deal can be done, the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) will declare the DIS a foc at the end of the week.
The ITF has offered some hope by describing the situation as "fluid", as secret meetings between Danish shipowners and maritime unions are taking place this week in Copenhagen to achieve an acceptable solution.
