Trade between the Caribbean and the US could be hit by the failure of ports in the region to achieve the 1 July deadline for compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS).
While most Caribbean countries are expected to meet the basic requirements of ISPS, a few, such as Haiti, still recovering from its latest bout of political chaos, are thought unlikely to meet the target.
