A containership on its maiden voyage has sparked a safety alert over the dangers to dockers involved in lashing work.
The unnamed ship was subject to a joint inspection by the UK's Maritime & Coastguard Agency and the Health and Safety Executive when it recently called at a UK east coast terminal.
After working with their German counterparts, they required the ship's operators to improve access for lashing containers on deck after dockers were forced to balance on a narrow ledge to fit lashing bars to outside tiers.
